frequently asked questions
01.
what is your medium?
I use my iPhone 13 Pro and Nikon D5600 to take the base photos. I layer multiple photos digitally using several apps and programs on iPad Pro (5th generation). The digital outcome is meticulously color proofed and then professionally printed on heavyweight watercolor paper. The paper is mounted on a cradled wooden panel and finished with textured varnish. Archival materials.
02.
what is your technique?
I use abstract photographs of natural textures and surfaces and layer them digitally. I don't add any digital marks or drawings, I just layer the photographs as is and allow the blending process to create completely new visual experiences.
03.
how can a digital artwork be original artwork?
Digital art can truly be original and authentic, just like traditional art forms. The medium does not inherently diminish the authenticity or originality of the art created. A print of an oil painting which is photographed or scanned is trying to create an exact replica of an original painting. It is a copy of something already in existence. A digital artwork is original - it was created on a computer and it reflects the moment in time when it was created through the printing, mounting, and textural varnishing process.
04.
are your limited editions reproduced prints or original art?
The majority of my artworks are created by combining and juxtaposing original photographic imagery on a computer. The only way these images become physical artworks is by printing them on a professional fine art printer, with archival-quality pigment inks. These are, therefore, originals in the same way that a block print or a lithograph are. I only ever print the amount of works listed in an edition. I hand mount the print on a wooden panel and finish it with textured varnish. Every single work in any edition is unique due to the handmade nature of my technique. When the full edition is sold, no more are printed. The majority of my work is sold as a limited edition of 10 per size (no more than 1-3 sizes per work), or as a single edition.
